Classic games have disappeared from sale, GTA V has two editions, and store pages remain even where nothing is sold. This page explains what is currently available for each game.

The question ‘where can I buy old GTA games?’ has many outdated answers online. The most common misconception is that the classic games were deleted from Steam. They were not: their pages are still there, but they have no price. Existing owners keep the games; new buyers cannot purchase them.
None of this has been copied from other guides. We checked availability directly through the public store interface, which returns a price for each game, and by querying the publisher’s pages. Where no result is returned, the game is not sold.

GTA Liberty City Stories 2005
Available on mobile as part of a GTA+ subscription. It is not officially sold separately on PC.
GTA Vice City Stories 2006
Originally released for PSP and PlayStation 2. No official version for modern platforms exists.
GTA Chinatown Wars 2009
Available on mobile as part of a GTA+ subscription. Originally released for Nintendo DS.
GTA Advance 2004
Only released for Game Boy Advance. It has never been re-released.
Frequently asked questions
Why can’t I buy the original GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas?
Rockstar withdrew them from sale in 2021 while preparing The Definitive Edition. Their store pages remain but have no price and now only serve existing owners. Checked 26 August 2026 through Steam’s public interface: the three originals return no price, while the remasters do.
Does The Definitive Edition include the original versions?
No. Shortly after the remaster launched in November 2021, Rockstar added the originals for a limited time, but that offer ended. Guides still claiming otherwise describe a situation from years ago.
What is the difference between GTA V Legacy and Enhanced?
Legacy is the original 2015 release; Enhanced is the newer edition with improved graphics. Only Enhanced is sold today. This matters for modding: a mod written for one edition may not work in the other.
Can GTA 1 or GTA 2 still be obtained legally anywhere?
Not from Rockstar. The Rockstar Classics page that offered them as free downloads for years now redirects to the homepage, and both game pages return 404. Checked 26 August 2026.
Is a GTA+ subscription worthwhile?
It depends on what you need. Alongside GTA Online benefits, it provides access to selected older Rockstar games, including Liberty City Stories and Chinatown Wars on mobile. It is not suitable for buying one particular old game: access ends with the subscription.

Before you buy anything
For the classic games, the edition matters more than the price. Mods and multiplayer run on the original versions, not the remasters — and that choice cannot be undone.
