Vice City v GTA 6 is the same location as in 2002
It is the same fictional city, rebuilt and set in the present day. Rockstar has not indicated that the 2002 storyline continues. Expecting a return of Tommy Vercetti is a wish, not an information.

GTA 6 is returning to Vice City. To clarify what this return means, here’s the full line – and mainly what is carried over from previous installments and what is just a similar name.
Six games, twenty-five years
Liberty City
The first 3D installment. It established the format that the series still uses today: an open city, missions from clients, and radio as a backdrop. Without it, GTA 6 would look different.
Vice City
An eighties parody of Miami. This is where GTA 6 is returning – after more than twenty years of real-time. However, it’s not a continuation of the story: the new Vice City is a contemporary city, not the same place at a different time.
the state of San Andreas
For the first time, a whole state instead of one city – countryside, desert, three metropolises. Leonida in GTA 6 is following the same path: city plus the state around it.
Liberty City
A more restrained, darker tone and much more sophisticated physics. According to Rockstar, Lucia from GTA 6 originates in Liberty City – it’s the only direct geographical link between the games the studio has confirmed.
Los Santos
Three playable characters and switching between them during gameplay. GTA 6 focuses on two characters, but for the first time, they are led as a pair – not as three separate lines that occasionally intersect.
Vice City, the state of Leonida
Releases on 19th November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Jason and Lucia, a criminal conspiracy across the state. It’s the first time a woman has a central role in the series.
It is the same fictional city, rebuilt and set in the present day. Rockstar has not indicated that the 2002 storyline continues. Expecting a return of Tommy Vercetti is a wish, not an information.
Rockstar states that she grew up in Liberty City and entered the state of Leonida later. This is the only confirmed geographical link to earlier titles.
There’s no indication of a continuing storyline. The series tells self-contained stories within a shared world – characters may reappear across different parts, but only occasionally.
