Things the game never explains

Three guides to situations eventually faced by anyone who plays GTA V for more than a few evenings.

How to reach 100%

100% does not simply mean finishing the story. It requires a list of tasks, most of which many players never discover.

  1. 1

Complete all 69 story missions, including those that can be missed.

  2. 2

Complete 20 Strangers and Freaks tasks — this is also where the Bigfoot mission appears.

  3. 3

Complete 42 random events. They appear as blue dots on the map and disappear if you drive past.

  4. 4

Complete 14 hobbies and pastimes, including tennis, golf, yoga, hunting and races.

  5. 5

Complete 16 miscellaneous activities, including collecting scraps and completing jumps.

What you gain

The reward is not only a trophy: UFOs also appear in the game. They cannot be seen before 100% completion.

Checked in game: completion statistics are under Pause → Stats → Completion.

The game will not start after an update

This is the most common problem with a modded installation. It nearly always has the same cause and solution.

  1. 1

Do not use file verification until you know what changed, as it can remove all modifications.

  2. 2

Find the new game version and compare it with the version supported by your Script Hook.

  3. 3

If the hook does not support the new version, remove it temporarily. The game will then start without mods.

  4. 4

Wait for the authors to publish an updated version. Bypassing the version check usually creates more problems.

  5. 5

Only then restore the mods, one at a time, checking the game after every step.

Close any guide that asks you to disable antivirus protection or enter your Rockstar account details. A legitimate mod never needs either.

100% completion also unlocks the UFOs

Reaching 100% makes things appear in the world that were not there before. The secrets guide explains where and when to find them.
