Things the game never acknowledges

Rockstar hid things in Los Santos that serve no purpose, provide no reward and receive no explanation. That is why the community has searched for over ten years. This separates genuine discoveries, unresolved questions and inventions.

How we classify them

Confirmed

6 items

They are genuinely in the game and can be reached. Each entry explains how.

Unsolved

2 mysteries

They are in the game, but nobody knows what they mean. Rockstar has not commented.

Disproved

3 legends

They are demonstrably absent from the game. They remain listed so the claims do not return.

Aliens

The game's most common motif appears in three forms, only one of which requires a condition.

Confirmed

The frozen alien in North Yankton

In the opening mission, before the game reaches Los Santos, a frozen alien body lies beneath the ice.

The bank escape crosses a frozen stream. A body is visible underwater beneath the bridge. It is a real object, also visible on returning to North Yankton during Bury the Hatchet.

How to get there

During the prologue escape, drive down to the frozen stream and look beneath the bridge. The police are approaching, but there is time to stop.

Our assessment

It is the game's best-hidden Easter egg: everyone plays the first mission, yet most never see it because nobody explores during the prologue.

Confirmed

Three UFOs after completing the game

After 100% completion, flying saucers appear at three locations. Each looks different and has its own condition.

One appears above Mount Chiliad's summit at night in rain. Another hovers above Fort Zancudo, immediately attracting the military. The third is submerged north of Paleto Bay and requires diving equipment or a submarine.

How to get there

First reach 100% completion, then visit Mount Chiliad between 23:00 and 24:00 game time during rain.

Our assessment

Fort Zancudo is clearly the hardest. Start with Mount Chiliad, where only weather and time matter.

Confirmed

Aliens in Michael's hallucination

During the yoga mission, Michael comes under the influence of a substance and fights aliens.

It is part of the story rather than hidden, but many players postpone the mission and never return. The scene's presentation alone makes it worth seeing.

How to get there

Did Somebody Say Yoga? unlocks during Michael's story strand.

The Mount Chiliad mystery

The game's longest-running unresolved question. Rockstar has never published an official interpretation, and after more than ten years one appears unlikely.

Unsolved

The drawing in the cable-car station

A drawing on the summit station wall shows an eye, three symbols and the words “Come back when your story is complete.”

The symbols are usually interpreted as a UFO, jetpack and clock. A jetpack later appeared in GTA Online during the Doomsday Heist, which some regard as a later fulfilment. Rockstar has neither confirmed nor disproved this.

How to get there

Take the cable car to the summit and enter the station. The drawing is always visible without any condition.

Our assessment

Our view is that the message fits the UFOs appearing after 100% completion. That does not make the interpretation correct, only coherent.

Unsolved

The Altruist camp and the backpack-shaped shadow

A cult of older men lives in Chiliad Mountain State Wilderness. Around seven in the evening, a rock casts a shadow some players see as a jetpack.

Trevor can deliver hitchhikers to the camp and later clear it for money. Its connection to Mount Chiliad is solely a community interpretation without firm evidence.

How to get there

Play as Trevor and deliver a hitchhiker to the camp. Entering without one triggers an immediate attack.

Our assessment

This shows how legends form: a rock, a shadow and a backpack drawing elsewhere invite a connection made by players rather than the game.

Ghosts and murders

Two unrelated subjects that work alike: the game lays a trail and leaves the rest to the player.

Confirmed

The ghost at Mount Gordo

Every night between 23:00 and 24:00 game time, a woman's figure appears on a rock. She disappears when approached, leaving a name written in blood.

The writing leads to a name found in the game. This is a planned Easter egg with a fixed time window and its own narrative trail, not a random event.

How to get there

Visit the rock on Mount Gordo's eastern side between 23:00 and 24:00 game time. Approach slowly or she disappears earlier.

Confirmed

The murderer and fifty letter scraps

Fifty pieces of a murder confession are scattered across the map. Assembling them reveals the culprit.

The victim is Leonora Johnson. The first-person confession identifies her killer, and completing the collection unlocks a mission dealing with the culprit.

How to get there

Collect all 50 scraps with any character.

Our assessment

This collection offers the best reward, not in money but because it leads to an actual conclusion.

Creatures

Sasquatch has been a GTA subject since players searched San Andreas in vain in 2004. GTA V finally included it, though differently from expectations.

Confirmed

Bigfoot in thermal imaging

During Predator, thermal imaging reveals a figure that is not one of the hunted people.

Sasquatch also appears in Strangers and Freaks, where the player can become it. GTA Online later followed this with the time-limited Beast Hunt.

How to get there

During Predator, scan the surroundings with thermal imaging rather than looking only for the target.

Our assessment

This is Rockstar's response to ten years of searching San Andreas, where Bigfoot was absent. They finally added it in another easily missed form.

Legends that are false

They remain listed deliberately. A rumour nobody publicly disproves returns months later, usually with a link asking for a download.

Disproved

North Yankton can be unlocked for free exploration

Claims have long said certain tasks unlock North Yankton or Liberty City for exploration. They do not.

North Yankton exists for two story missions. Datamining shows it is not loaded beyond them and has no working content. Only mods or glitches reach it. Liberty City is entirely absent from GTA V.

Our assessment

Guides promising this through a downloaded file lead to fraudulent websites. The game has no mechanism to trigger it.

Disproved

Bigfoot was in 2004's San Andreas

The legend that began the phenomenon. Players searched for years, but Bigfoot was never in the game.

Repeated analysis of the game files confirms this. Its later GTA V appearance is a joke for informed players, responding to a fifteen-year-old rumour.

Our assessment

A reminder of how long a legend survives when nobody disproves it publicly.

Disproved

A sea monster lives in the ocean

Videos show a huge creature in the depths. No such hostile creature exists in the game.

Sharks genuinely attack the player. Anything larger is a mod or edited footage. The Kraken submarine awarded for a collection is a vehicle, not a creature.

Our assessment

Confusing the Kraken submarine with a mythical monster is likely the main source of this rumour. The name fits; the content does not.

The UFOs only appear after 100% completion

Three of the four confirmed Easter eggs have a requirement. The hardest is 100% completion, reached partly through 232 collectables.
