Adder
Super
The highest speed among normally obtainable cars, but weak brakes punish entering a bend too quickly.

GTA V contains over seven hundred vehicles, yet most players finish with five. This covers what genuinely deserves garage space according to use rather than appearance.

Values come from the bars shown by the game in shops and garages.
The bars are not actual measured performance. Rockstar simplifies them, and some vehicles feel different from their displayed values. Use them as a rough in-game comparison.
Check every value yourself: vehicles at Los Santos Customs and weapons at Ammu-Nation. The displayed bars are the values listed here.

Values range from 0 to 100, following the in-game displays.
Super
The highest speed among normally obtainable cars, but weak brakes punish entering a bend too quickly.
Super
More balanced than the Adder and often faster on a winding course despite its lower top speed.
Sports
All-wheel drive forgives more mistakes than the Super class, making it useful while learning.
Sports
Cheap and fast. Available early in the campaign and useful through most of it.
Muscle
Heavy and durable, withstanding mission collisions better than a sports car.
Motorcycle
An off-road motorcycle with the best handling here, ideal for slopes while collecting.
Off-road
Slow on roads but capable off-road where others stop. Its high suspension clears most obstacles.
Based on what you do with the vehicle
| Class | Strength | Weakness | When to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Super | Highest speed and best grip | Fragile, expensive and poor away from tarmac | Circuit races and motorway escapes. |
| Sports | Balance of speed and handling | Lower top speed than Super | The most versatile class, often faster in the city because it turns better. |
| Muscle | Durability and mass | Poor brakes and a tendency to oversteer | Pushing someone off the road or surviving a collision. |
| Off-road | Rough terrain and durable suspension | Slow on roads | Blaine County, off-road collectables and escapes into the hills. |
| SUV and Sedans | Discretion and four seats | Average in every respect | Missions involving companions, who do not fit in a sports car. |
| Motorcycles | Acceleration and filtering through traffic | One collision throws the rider off | The fastest route through congested city streets. |
| Helicopters | Ignore terrain and traffic | Cannot hide from police | Crossing the map and reaching places inaccessible by car. |
Useless in firefights: a few hits stop the engine.
The best choice for an ordinary campaign playthrough.
Withstands mission ramming better than a sports car.
Saves considerable time while collecting.
Some missions simply prevent a two-seat vehicle from continuing.
Risky during police pursuits, as slight contact is enough.
The missile-equipped Buzzard is the most useful aircraft, but the campaign only provides it in particular missions.
Ordered by benefit to driving
Los Santos Customs can modify almost everything, but only some work affects driving.
Increases power and acceleration across four levels.
Is it worth it? Always worthwhile. The highest level is noticeable.
Substantially improves acceleration, especially in the middle of the rev range.
Is it worth it? Worthwhile, second only to the engine.
Faster gear changes and better acceleration.
Is it worth it? Worthwhile.
Shorter stopping distance.
Is it worth it? Worthwhile, especially on heavy cars and most noticeably in the Muscle class.
Lowers the car and changes cornering.
Is it worth it? Use care. The lowest setting looks good but makes the car bounce on uneven surfaces.
Reduces damage from gunfire and impacts.
Is it worth it? Worthwhile in the campaign on the vehicle used for missions.
Without it, a modified car is permanently lost when destroyed. Insurance allows its return.
Not essential, but without it a garage vehicle is absent from the map. Useful for cars frequently misplaced.
Each character has a separate garage. Trevor cannot find a car modified by Michael there.
Only obtained by completing an in-game requirement
Some vehicles cannot be bought and require an in-game achievement, usually without explanation.
Collect all 50 Spaceship Parts.
The alien-styled buggy appears at Omega's trailer after completing the collection. Its unusual physics differs from every other vehicle.
Collect all 30 Submarine Parts.
The submarine for Abigail's strand makes underwater travel, otherwise the game's slowest movement, convenient.
Finish the story, then trigger the random event involving the Duke.
An armoured Muscle car that withstands considerably more than an ordinary vehicle, among the campaign's toughest.
Complete The Last One from Strangers and Freaks.
Not a vehicle, but included here because the game lets you play as Sasquatch. Most players never find the mission.
Photograph all 50 Monkey Mosaics.
Unlocks the final Rampage mission and the superhero costume from the in-game cartoon.
The Space Docker requires 50 spaceship parts and the Kraken 30 submarine parts. The collectables guide explains their locations and prerequisites.
