Rockstar named six regions and released images for each. It did not announce the map's size — yet that is the most-cited claim about the game.

Most websites answer “how big is the GTA 6 map?” with a figure. Rockstar gave none. Those figures came from estimates based on the trailer or leaked material, then were copied until they began to look like fact.
This page therefore draws a hard line. What Rockstar published links to its own website. What it did not announce is listed as unannounced, including the size. Earlier games are included as documented examples, not predictions.
GTA 6 takes place in the fictional state of Leonida, based on present-day Florida. Vice City is part of it, not the whole map — the relationship is reversed from earlier games: before, there was a city and its surroundings; now there is a state with a city inside it.
The names and descriptions come from the official game website
In May 2025, alongside the second trailer, Rockstar published pages for individual regions with official images. These are the only places known with certainty to be on the map and to bear these names.
A present-day return to Vice City. Beaches, dense development, entertainment districts and waterfronts. The game's centre, but not the whole map.

Rockstar has not announced the map's size — neither in kilometres nor in relation to GTA V. The figures circulating online have no source. They were estimated from the trailer or leaked material, or somebody simply wrote them and others copied them.
We put it this bluntly on purpose. The claim that the map is larger than GTA V is among the most cited claims about this game and also among the least supported.
When Rockstar gives a figure, it will appear here with a link. Until then, the honest answer is “unannounced”.

Liberty City was split into three islands unlocked through the story. A closed bridge was then a common way to keep players in the first area.
